Superbowl with Dave Winer February 4, 2007

Dave Winer invited Mike Arrington and us over to see Superbowl at his house in San Francisco. This is the first time we are meeting Dave and so we thought it was extremely generous of him to invite us for Superbowl.
Dave has a great house with a view on the sea. Definitely a place to live. I think none of the present were particularly interested in Superbowl beyond the commercials and the general direction of the game, so we had a good time talking and drinking some of Dave’s very nice beers.
Beers aside :), it was great to meet one of the most legendary bloggers in the world. For the occasion we brought him his own .name, winer.name. Hope he will find good use for it!

.name, therefore IAM January 31, 2007

It has just become much, much easier to get a .name email address and domain name. We have just released in beta a toolkit service, called the Identity Address Management tool (or IAM tool for short) for Registrars and resellers.
It allows Registrars and resellers to get a fully functional platform, that can be skinned using CSS to their brand and look and feel, where users can get a .name third level address and email and bundle it with services they like, using email/web forwarding.
We, and Registrars, can plug services into it as it grows and the Internet changes. But your .name address can always remain the same.
.name - personal, memorable, lifelong. Now also accessible.
ICANN Los Angeles Regional Meeting January 30, 2007

We’re at the ICANN Regional Meeting in Los Angeles today and coming from London, where the sky is a narrow slit of blue (or grey), personal transport equals cabs and tube, and people walk in lines on Oxford Street; there is always something magical about Santa Monica in LA. The surf, the sea and the west-coast spirit are definitely liberating.
And the regional meeting brings forth the best among Registrars and Registries. We’re showing off our skinnable, green-labelled identity platform for Registrars and I know there are some takers. The identity space is heating up and OpenID is coming full force. dotName will be perfectly positioned to take advantage of this growth - an identity needs to be memorable, personal and lifelong for both its owner and his/her contacts.
Got a name? Soon it’s going to be really easy to get a dot name, with any Registrar.
Two character names on .NAME January 17, 2007

We are very pleased to announce that ICANN has given .NAME permission to open all two character second levels for third level registrations. The .NAME Registry will now finally be able to offer everyone with a two character surname their own personal Internet Identity. We are expecting to open the new namespaces in Q2 2007, the names will then be available through our Registrars
An example address could be: joe@li.name and joe.li.name.
The ICANN Board resolution can be found here, the full Registry services procedure can be found here.
